2/25/2014 - The Alliance for Audited Media (AAM) has released their semi-annual Newspaper and Periodical Snapshot report, which contains the circulation numbers of the top 25 business publications in the U.S. and Canada as tracked by the firm. The data, which covers the second half of 2013, takes into account the average sum of paid and qualified non-paid subscribers for each issue of a given periodical.
2/20/2014 - Separate research projects conducted by ABM and Forrester Research independently conclude that marketers are planning to increase their ad budgets. Both studies also show that digital spending is on the rise, while more marketers plan to cut print spending than to increase it.
2/18/2014 - Cygnus Business Media CEO John French has announced that the company’s Heavy Construction Group brand is for sale. Monetary data has not been released, but just as with last year’s sale of its Agriculture division to the American Farm Bureau Federation, Cygnus has employed the services of M&A advisory firm Corporate Solutions LLC.
2/18/2014 - Chandra Ram, editor of Plate magazine, has been awarded the 2014 McAllister Editorial Fellowship. A veteran of the foodservice industry, Ram spent more than 15 years as a cook/consulting chef before trading the kitchen for the editor’s chair.
2/18/2014 - Praetorian Group, Inc. has announced the purchase of Fire Chief magazine’s assets – including the trademark, mailing lists and the Web domain – from former owner Penton. The periodical was shuttered last November after 57 years of publication, but Praetorian plans to relaunch it as a digital brand, beginning with an e-mail newsletter and website redesign later this month.
2/12/2014 - Aviation Week’s Michael Fabey has been announced as the winner of the 2014 Timothy White Award. Named for the late Billboard magazine editor who was devoted to using his position in order to improve his industry – shedding light on issues such as artists’ rights – the award is given to a business editor who demonstrates bravery, integrity, passion and quality of product.
