Plate editor Chandra Ram announced as McAllister Editorial Fellow
Twentieth annual Fellowship to be conferred at the Jesse H. Neal Awards on March 14
Feb. 18, 2014 – Chandra Ram, editor of Plate magazine, has been awarded the 2014 McAllister Editorial Fellowship. A veteran of the foodservice industry, Ram spent more than 15 years as a cook/consulting chef before trading the kitchen for the editor’s chair. She is involved in a number of food-related committees and charities, functioning as a member of Les Dames d’Escoffier, the culinary advisory board for Kendall College and the James Beard Foundation Award chef/restaurant judging committee. Ram is also the president of Meals on Wheels Chicago.
The McAllister Editorial Fellowship, which is endowed by the family of former ABM chairman Donald McAllister, Sr. and is administered through the Business Press Educational Foundation (BPEF), is given to promote educational opportunities in the field of business media writing. It will be presented to Ram at the 60th annual Jesse H. Neal Awards ceremony, and as a result of her honor, she will function as a teacher/advisor at Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism during the Medill Magazine Project.
“It’s such a huge honor to be awarded the McAllister Fellowship, and to receive that recognition by my peers in b-to-b publishing,” said Ram, speaking about her honor. “Journalism today often feels like it is changing at a lightning-fast pace, but the core mission – telling compelling stories that inform our readers – remains the same. I’m excited about the opportunity to work with the students at Medill and discuss how we can tell those stories to their best effect given the platforms and technology available to us now."
