Honoring the Extraordinary
Rubbing shoulders with legends
at the 2006 CEBA Awards ceremony

BBDO New York and Ogilvy North America round out the list of inductees for American Business Media's inaugural AdWeek Magazines Creative Hall of Fame. The two agencies will be honored, along with Creative Hall of Fame individual inductees David Bell and George Lois, during the 11th Annual CEBA Awards ceremony, this coming Wednesday, September 20, 2006.

BBDO New York is being honored for their uncanny ability to deliver consistent creative excellence across a broad range of business media clients, including FedEx, GE, Cingular, and eBay. BBDO New York is part of BBDO Worldwide, a global agency network with 287 offices in 77 countries. In 2005, BBDO was named "Agency of the Year" by all of the leading industry trade publications, including Ad Age, Adweek and Campaign magazines.

John Osborn, president and CEO of BBDO New York will be on hand to accept this recognition on behalf of the agency. "This is about our clients... Clients who encourage us to do great work... Clients who encourage us to deliver great results," said Osborn. "In a business that's about the work, it's nice to be recognized for the work behind the business."

A business media advertising cornerstone and benchmark, Ogilvy North America services Fortune Global 500 companies including American Express, BP, Gillette, IBM, Kodak, Kraft, Morgan Stanley, and Nestlé through the creation of powerful campaigns that address local market needs while still reinforcing the same universal brand identity. Andy Berndt, managing director of Ogilvy & Mather New York, will be accepting on behalf of Ogilvy North America.

Creative Hall of Fame inductee David Bell, an industry leader in marketing communications and Chairman Emeritus of the Interpublic Group, was the visionary behind the first CEBA Awards, recognizing the need for honoring outstanding achievement in business-to-business advertising. A legend in the business media space, his creativity spans business-to-business giants from Microsoft to Johnson & Johnson, Merck to Boeing.

George Lois, America's master communicator, is renowned not only for marketing miracles but for pop culture movements worldwide. His career spans a lifetime of marketing milestones, including the acclaimed Xerox "chimp" ads, the "Make Time for Time" ad campaign, the famous "I Want My MTV" campaign, the creation of the 'Lean Cuisine' moniker, and many other extraordinary marketing feats, including making Tommy Hilfiger a household name.

Recognizing the agencies or individuals who were instrumental in creating the most extraordinary and innovative advertising campaigns of our time, "The Hall of Fame gives acknowledgement and due recognition to those agencies or individuals who have left an indelible mark on the advertising and creative community with their unforgettable campaigns," says Gordon T. Hughes II, president and CEO of American Business Media.

eMedia Update

Let's get digital

We're way past the days of repurposing print ads to be used online (or at least, we should be). And as online media continues to expand at such an unprecedented rate, the CEBA Awards have broadened to include a category specifically tailored to digital advertising campaigns. This newly developed digital category honors cutting edge business-to-business advertising (e.g., banners, electronic catalogs and electronic- sponsored areas) that has been featured in an ABM member-sponsored Web site or CD-ROM.

Finalists in the 2006 CEBA Awards Digital Category are:

  • Agency: HSR Business to Business
    Advertiser: Eclipse Aviation
    Name of Ad: Eyeblaster
Web Site Where Ad Appeared: Forbes.com
  • Agency: OgilvyOneWorldwide
    Advertiser: IBM

American Business Press (the precursor to American Business Media) considered cancelling the annual CEBA awards scheduled for early October 2001. Perhaps holding such an event so soon after the attacks might be interpreted as insensitive. Instead, in a small act of defiance against the enemies of free speech and free trade, and to show support for a devastated lower Manhattan, a modestly staged CEBA awards was held in Tribeca. Those who attended will never forget the disturbing, distinctive odor of destruction still lingering in the air that evening, as approximately 150 people answered their Mayor’s call to “do business as usual.”

2002 at TRIBECA GRILL: Building Community
Grand CEBA Winner--Martin/Williams, "Steelcase Campaign"

2003 at TRIBECA GRILL: Continuing Excellence
Grand CEBA Winner--Martin/Williams, "Hairspray"

2004 at ELEVEN MADISON PARK: Hitting our Stride
Grand CEBA Winner--OgilvyOne Worldwide, "FM Global Price Tag"

2005 at THE ALLEN ROOM, JAZZ AT LINCOLN CENTER: Advertising Comes to Life
Grand CEBA Winner--BBDO, "Ecomagination"

and now, 2006 at THE ALLEN ROOM, JAZZ AT LINCOLN CENTER: The Best of Business Advertising
Register now to attend the ceremony and be the first to see this year's Grand CEBA Winner.
