July 27, 2012 - The Agricultural Media Summit, a joint meeting of the ABM Agri Council, the American Agricultural Editor’s Association and the Livestock Publications Council, will be held Aug. 4-8 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The event also includes the annual meeting of the Agricultural Communicators of Tomorrow.
The meeting presents a mix of nuts-and-bolts journalism workshops on social media tools, video, crafting a story, as well as ag-industry topics ranging from the potential impact of Foot and Mouth Disease to how border and immigration issues affect the ag industry.
A lunch keynote titled “Agriculture and the Gulf War—It’s a Matter of Security” will feature Captain Peter Shinn, public affairs officer of the 734th Agribusiness Development Team, discussing how the National Guard Agribusiness Development teams are trying to restore food production in war-torn Afghanistan.
Charlie Steinholm, a 26-year veteran of the U.S. House of Representatives and formerly the ranking Democrat on the House Agriculture Committee, and Barry Flinchbaugh, a renowned former professor of agricultural economics at Kansas State University (and a former farm magazine columnist), return to the Ag Media Summit for the “Great Debate II,” in which the two experts will have a lively debate over U.S. ag policy (including the new Farm Bill in the making).
