Top Media Moves
Don Pazour, president and CEO of Access Intelligence, will be honored with Trade Show News Network's Industry Icon Award at the Third Annual TSNN Awards in November. Pazour has led Access Intelligence for more than a decade, expanding the company with several launches and 18 acquisitions. Prior to Access Intelligence, Pazour headed Miller Freeman, a subsidiary of United Business Media, as CEO, propelling the company to become the largest trade show producer in the U.S. Tarsus Group operates Trade Show News Network.
Renee Citera has been appointed to a newly created vice president role at ALM. In this position, Citera will build the ALM Large Law Team, who will work with customers at large law firms. The team will package ALM content and products together with an aim to serve their clients, operate their businesses and grow their practices. Prior to joining ALM, Citera spent 27 years at LexisNexis. Most recently, she served as vice president and managing director of Global Research Solutions.
Omeda, an integrated database management and email marketing service provider, has been selected to assist Educational Concepts, LLC with database management, subscription fulfillment and email services. Omeda will consolidate the company's customers — which are derived from publications, conferences, events and web-based products — into a single integrated database. Educational Concepts's core brands include Clinician’s Brief and Exceptional Veterinary Team.

Washington eyes privacy and cyber security
Privacy and cyber security is becoming a hot topic in the nation's capital. The Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation has held two hearings in the last three months regarding privacy legislation. The first, in May, examined perspectives from the Administration and the FTC around the need for baseline privacy legislation. The second hearing, less than two weeks ago, investigated whether industry self-regulatory programs could do enough to protect consumer privacy. Last week, the National Telecommunications & Information Administration (NTIA) also began tackling privacy, holding its first meeting in a series of gatherings on how companies that offer mobile applications and interactive services handle personal data. While the parties involved are keeping a lid on details, the acquisition of Northstar Travel Media was one of the largest in the b-to-b media industry this year, with more than more than 10 companies participating in the management phase, according to Northstar CEO Tom Kemp. And unlike many of the deals that have defined b-to-b media M&A over the last three years, this was not a distressed transaction.
